Happy New Year 2021 | I was taken for a run on New Year's Eve. out in the streets of Boston.
It will usually be me initiating a run, but this time it felt as if I need to force myself out. Well, I ended up running anyway, enough to build an experience of it.
On any other year the streets will be crowded, the banks of the Charles River will be full of people despite the chill. This year even the wind kept it low allowing the river to reflect the city lights from both sides making it an urban spectacle, as close to fireworks as it could be.
2020 had a grand opening to a lame rest of it, making the entrance of 2021 apologetic, low key, keeping social distancing from anything human.
This new year has double the weight making things right for humanity, it needs to rebuild trust between people, nations, societies. Between us and the the planet we live in. It needs to restore our abilities to communicate in real life, to speak our body language - shoulders down . . . It will need to find ways to wrap the 'new normal' and toss it like a used musk.
The 'new normal' was like being in an abusive relationships that allowed us a divorce vs. committing a suicide - but we sure need more of the 'old normal'.
We have learned what can we improve upon, we sure got our share of global devastation - a world war III - the world against Covid-19, where we lost over a million people and growing - even when we finally have the new shield to protect us. It will take a few more months before we could declare victory.
2021 needs to keep twice the promise making up for lost time, for lost people. Making up for travel we postponed, for celebrations we could not hold, for jokes we could not share, or a snow ball we could not toss. A running event that has gone virtual, all the real people with the fake backgrounds, the fake people with the wrong backgrounds.
If 2020 has become unreal for many of us, this year is to become the year of REAL and nothing but that.
May we all have happy new cheers to make it right this time... go shine.
